Best 10 in 10

By now I think it’s no secret that I have a problem with Kim K and her bevy of  “Realitards”(talentless hacks that have made a living on TV doing absolutely nothing. Example: Paris Hilton, Nicole “Snookie”  Polizzi, Heidi Montag, to name a few).  I’m pretty sure she’s a nice person and more than likely I am just jealous of her notoriety.  But needless to say for someone who has not displayed any talents, besides looking good and being a marketing impresario she sure gets a lot of press.
As protest of America’s obsession with these Realitards I have come up with my own list of memorable and talented women that made headlines in 2010.

Anne Del Russo, Director at large and creative consultant for Vogue Nippon.  For being unafraid to express her fashion prowess.

Natalie Portman for her portrayal of Nina Sayers in Black Swan and impeccable sense of style.

Elizabeth Edwards for taking on cancer and the tabloids with dignity and strength.

Ellie Goulding for gifting me with her album, "Lights". Good stuff....

Sandra Bullock for surviving the skeazy Jessie James and taking on motherhood by herself.

Lady Gaga for being herself, giving me Alejandro and a great concert this summer.

Ang San Suu Kyi, Burma's first lady of freedom for fighting for what's just and right and braving 7 years of house arrest.

Jennifer Lawrence, because of her portrayal of the unflinching Ree Dolly in Winter's Bone.

Lea T, transgendered model for landing the Fall 10 Givenchy ad campaign.

Carrie Mulligan for her acting chops and cutting off all that hair and still rocking it!

There you have it, 10 fabulous females in 2010.  All talented, brave and strong.

Visual Cues

The other night I went to a midnight screening of “Tron Legacy”, besides missing the first 15 minutes of the movie due to a case of the sleeps I was thoroughly entertained.  Not only were the visual effects stunning (including Jeff Bridges digital face lift), the story line not too bad considering it’s about the a man who is trapped in a digital word of his own creation and enemies of the state are made to fight gladiatorial style.
For a movie, so steeped in high technology there were plenty of references to history.  As I mentioned before; the gladiatorial style battles, the genocide of an entire race, to a madman’s lust for perfection.  As a fashionphile I was more interested in the visual cues in the costumes.  The most fascinating to me being the markings on them, which referenced old military uniforms, from the wide break at the chest that referenced the lapel of a jacket, to the discs which were a nod to buttons and of course the markings along the legs which are reminiscent of jodhpurs.

Let's get Dirrrty.............

WARNING: The findings in this post are purely anecdotal try the following techniques at your own peril and discretion.

Recently I did my dating math.  I started dating at 16 and I am now substantially older and by now have spent more years of my life dating then not, scary..... Of course I've had my fair share of bumps and bruises and throughout the years I've noticed certain things when it comes to attracting men.
Men are visceral creatures and you have to attract them with all their senses, sight, sound, and smell. Of course you have to look the part, lean in close and speak into their ears and you have to smell the part.
You might think to yourself I shower and lather myself scented lotions and perfume. I've found that when I shower right before and especially wash my hair, then go out no men would talk to me. Conversely if I have not washed my hair in two days and showered earlier in the day I find that men find me irresistible.
I know, I know it sounds peculiar but I did an informal study one month and the positive reaction to the unwashed version of myself was staggering.
So what does this mean? Well if you want to get noticed try following steps the day you are going out.
1. Shower early in the day, not later than 12 noon if your departure time is 8 p.m.  Give yourself a seven hour window.
2. Apply perfume right after you finish your makeup, don't do it when you are leaving the house.  Most men find strong smelling perfumes off putting, so give it time to mix with your own essential oils.
3. Don't wash your hair for at least two days. if you find that your hair is too oily use a dry shampoo.
Try it out what do you have to lose, and let me know the result.

Pushing Seventies

Please refrain from rolling your eyes and listen up.  I've said this for a while now, but I'm going to say it again.  The seventies are back!!! No, not everything seventies is ponchos and bell bottoms.  You can tip your hat at the decade of love beads and tie dye by taking inspiration from the colors that were so prominent.  Mustards, ochers and burnets on my........

Objection..........

Today on MSN they had an article entitled, "10 Things That Aren't Worth the Money", I agreed with all the items on the list with the exception of one.  The items ranged from, olive oil to designer baby clothes.  The one item I had a difference of opinion was "Designer Tights".  True you can get the general look with lesser priced tights but the intricacies of the pattern, material, and the unique patterns have to count for something.  It's not a crime to buy a pair of patterned tights from Target but if you have a little bit more to splurge I recommend trying out one pair. Below are some of my favorite looks from Wolford.

Yes please...........

So someone asked me what I wanted for Christmas the other day. Of course I have my fantasy Christmas list but just like a fantasy football league most of it doesn't come true.  But below are two items I would really love.  The first is a lower heel but still sexy as it goes above the knee and the second has a slight heel and goes over the knee as well.

Kitty Cat

I've officially been designing for ten years now and in those ten years I've had the dubious task and pleasure of working with a lot of models.  One of my favorites is still Catrina Stella. So beautiful, funny, witty, sexy and real. Get it girl.
Here she is with Noah Mills, um no comment..............

Hotel Griffou

If you ever  have a thirst for killer libations, food that would satiate any beast, and are in NYC.  Consider Hotel Griffou, you'll find this gem nestled in the West Village.

 Artichoke trio.

Scallops with peaches.

You know I love a great piece of meat.

I don't even remember what this was but the mascarpone cheese and blueberries were a nice combination.

Then found out that our waiter was in "Sex in the City 2" as Sam Jone's Dance partner in the Liza scene.

Vintage Louboutin

I was on a stylist friends' website today and I ran into this old picture of me, and my first really expensive pair of boots.  They were of course Christian Louboutin and they had these, badger fur snap on spurs.
Long story short the less than pencil thin heel broke on a night out in LA and were not fixable.  It was a short lived and wonderful love affair.  In exchange Stanly Korshak let me use store credit and I got three pairs of other designer shoes in their place.  I still would have preferred the boots back and intact.

Tia Pol

If you ever find yourself in NYC and are craving Tapas try; Tia Pol on the west side.

Cockles in white wine and garlic broth.

Fried pig ears, as delicious as it is gross sounding. Let's face it I've had worse things in my mouth.
Basque style fried custard with drunken cherries, the cherries were my favorite part.  Something about them being drowned in red wine made them extra delicious.
